Tripadvisor

Client: Tripadvisor via Muros
Location: Chicago, Illinois

My Tripadvisor project was a memorable one. Part of a larger campaign (with different murals in Chicago, LA, and New York), art activation agency Muros asked me (on behalf of Tripadvisor) to create something colorful and fun to entice passersby to visit San Diego over their Spring Break.

While the bright colors and the sunny photos are giving “California Dreamin’” the reality couldn’t have been more different. Not only was the wall I installed this mural on textured and bumpy (very hard to work paint into with brush), but it was below freezing the whole time I was painting. Thankfully, the Muros crew painted the entire background of the mural pink before I arrived - which was amazing and saved us a lot of time in the cold. To ensure no paint was freezing or getting too thick, (pro tip incoming!!) we worked primarily with spray paint for this mural. Between the temperature and the rough surface, it was so much easier to get the finish we wanted!

The color palette was pre-determined by the time I got to prepping for this project, so my focus in designing was to create something that would make people want to take social media photos or reels in front of. Muros also commissioned me to create a design to put on a corresponding swag box that was filled with all things SD: tickets to the San Diego Zoo, bottles of sunscreen, baseball caps and fun stickers. It was a fun little challenge, and awesome to see my designs printed and packaged on this cute PR box.

After a couple hard days of painting (shout out to my amazing assistant painters for keeping morale high on this one), some deep dish pizza, and a lot of hand warmers, we slapped a vinyl QR code on the corner of the mural and admired our work. Though it was a tough project, it was a lot of fun and we LOVE how this one came out!

This project was only up for a month, but if you happened to take a picture with it, be sure to tag us on social! @pandrdesignco
